Bringing Academic Credibility Online for UBC’s Gunn IMS Program

WEBSITE DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT

Challenge

Gunn IMS’s previous site ran as a chronological blog feed – course announcements, event photos, and testimonials mixed together in individual posts, with no dedicated place for a prospective student to compare certification levels, find a course by location, or see the pathway from Level 1 to full certification. Students also had to manually register via email, and Gunn IMS’s team had to manage this all manually. Core pages that did exist – certification requirements, instructor bios, the practitioner directory – were long blocks of plain text with little visual hierarchy, so credentials that matter to this audience (UBC affiliation, program history since 1994, safety standards) were easy to miss.

Background

Gunn IMS is the UBC Faculty of Medicine’s Chan Gunn IMS Program – a university-affiliated, safety-first dry needling certification for physicians and physiotherapists, built on a whole-body neuromusculoskeletal approach to persistent pain. Engagement covered a full website rebuild.

The Approach

Rebuilt the site around a clear certification pathway (Level 1 -> Level 2 -> Level 3), with dedicated finder pages showing upcoming courses by date, location, and category.

Replaced the blog-style homepage with a structured hero section and a three-part credibility section (“The Gunn IMS Difference”) leading with the program’s UBC affiliation and safety standards.

Added an FAQ section and testimonial carousel so prospects can self-serve answers instead of scrolling years of newsletter posts.
